Got writer's block?

trees.gif

In Advanced Creative Writing, you should consider your creative soul to be an enchanted forest... a place to be explored, to lose yourself, to find yourself... to break the silence... If a tree fell in a forest and no one was around to hear it, did it really make a sound?
Advanced Creative Writing is a senior elective offered every spring. The class, which fills quickly, requires a writing sample and pre-approval from the teacher, Melanie Beard. Advanced Creative Writing covers magazine writing, e-zines, blogs and columns. The class produces an online and print journal each May. We will use this class website as a communication device to share materials, an assignment organizer and a tool for both parents and students.

Daily Free Writes
If you need ideas to free write around, see the link "Got writer's block?" I update that list each week.

You will free write for 15-20 minutes five times a week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we will start class with a short free write time. Then, as a homework assignment you are to free write three other days that week. So, you will have five entries in your Free Write Notebook each week. I will check them every other week in class just to be sure you are free writing. I will not read your notebook unless you indicate you would like to share it with me.

Submit your writing to Like Minds!

Like Minds comes out each May. We produce an online and print version. Submission deadline is March 31.

I will distribute more info in class about submitting to the magazine or working with other aspects of its development.

Writer's Digest will be an ongoing part of your reading assignment in Creative Writing 102. I have numerous issues of it in class which you can access.

IN THE NEWS: In this space each week I will post links to news articles of interest. I will add links to feature articles which are examples of strong writing and I will link you to articles which we will discuss in class.

WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS: Each Sunday, I'll post weekly assignments here of what we will be working on Monday through Friday. I will also post a Peek Ahead, which will provide a brief overview of next week's activities.
